Wecome to the Denver Fire Fighters Burn Foundation

WHO WE ARE.......

The Denver Fire Department was established in 1881 as the city’s first professional fire fighting company. One hundred years later, the descendants of Denver’s first professional fire fighters saw a need to respond to the community after the fire was out. That response is the Denver Fire Fighters Burn Foundation. Since 1981 we have provided aid after the fire.

FIRE VICTIMS’ BENEFIT

When the Denver Fire Department responds to a fire, the Burn Foundation is contacted to assist the residents who have been displaced from their homes. We provide immediate monetary assistance to these victims.

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL BURN CENTER

The Foundation shares the generosity of its benefactors with the largest and only pediatric burn center in the Rocky Mountain region, the Children’s Hospital Burn Center. Among the programs supported by the Foundation are the Juvenile Firesetters Prevention Programs, run by the Children’s Hospital Burn Center and by the Denver Fire Investigation Bureau. These programs work hand-in-hand and focus on prevention before tragedy strikes.

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL BURN CAMPS

Each year, young burn survivors from all over the United States attend a week-long summer camp near Estes Park, Colorado. Camp Cheley offers all the activities and adventures of a traditional camp, such as horseback riding, hiking, fishing, and unique confidence building activities. It allows children to meet others who have gone through a similar experience and share feelings as well as burn and recovery experiences. The Children’s Hospital camps program also includes a winter camp in Colorado and a family camp in Minnesota. The Foundation provides full scholarships to these camps and supports the fire fighters who volunteer their time as counselors.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The scholarship program was started in 1999 to assist burn survivors with their education. The scholarship is available to those individuals who have been treated at The Children’s Hospital Burn Center or attended the Cheley/Children’s Hospital Burn Camp, Winter Camp or Project Challenge.   We are also providing assistance to adult burn survivors to attend a yearly conference held for burn survivors and their families.

SPECIAL EVENTS

A variety of special events are held annually to raise funds, to support the Foundations program and services. Our largest annual event is our charity golf tournament. We have sponsored dinners, dances and pool tournaments. Several organizations designate the Burn Foundation as the charity for their fund-raising events.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

As with any nonprofit organization, our ability to reach out depends on the generosity of others. We need your help. We depend solely on generous donations from individuals and corporations, fund-raising activities and the contributions of our own Denver Fire Fighters through a payroll-deduction program.

The Denver Fire Fighters Burn Foundation is incorporated as a nonprofit charity with the State of Colorado. Donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. Send contributions to:
