Payroll Deduction Concerns
Over the last week we’ve received many concerns from members regarding payroll deductions, specifically rumors that payroll deductions would be eliminated January 1st 2017 for all Fire Department affiliate organizations and charities. Affected organizations/charities include: The Association, Relief Fund, Burn Fund, F.I.R.E, Firefighters Museum, as well as insurance Companies such as Police and Fire Insurance (PFIA), and Colonial. Working collaboratively with the Fire Department Administration, we immediately went to work contacting the offices of the Auditor, Director of Safety, and Mayor, and it was determined that these rumors were true (deductions for TIAA-CREF and Local 858 were not affected). Local 858 began using our relationships within the City to address these concerns and work on resolutions. On Friday, our partners in the City agreed that ALL deductions will remain intact. The only question remaining is regarding private, for-profit, insurance companies, such as Colonial and PFIA. The City has agreed these deductions will remain intact for 2017 and will be working with those companies to obtain City Contracts prior to 2018. Thanks to the members that brought these concerns forward, so we could work to ensure Denver Firefighter affiliate groups help remain funded in the future. Fraternally, Local 858 E-Board Read More...
